UK weather: Exact location where 26C scorcher is forecast today as 'late summer' hits

Parts of the UK will enjoy summer-like temperatures on Monday (September 12) as a sudden burst of heat follows a period of stormy weather.

Gloomy and wet conditions last week marked a sad few days for the United Kingdom, with crowds of mourners at Buckingham Palace on Thursday night braving heavy downpours to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

But those queuing to see the late monarch lying peacefully in state at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh today will likely stay dry, with a less than 5% chance of precipitation in the city and mild highs of 17C on Tuesday afternoon, reports the Met Office.

Further south on Monday things are expected to get much warmer, with Londoners expected to enjoy peak temperatures of 26C and sunny intervals.

Many parts of the south east and west will also enjoy dry conditions and highs in the low-to-mid-twenties, which should continue into Tuesday.

Storms will however continue to rumble on in the north west of England and the north of Wales, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for rain for a small number of coastal spots in the regions between midnight and 11am today.

One Environment Agency flood warning is also in force at the Wye Estuary near Brockweir, Gloucestershire after Sunday evening's high tide.

The rest of the week will see temperatures closer to the seasonal norm, with some chilly evenings possible. Occasional showers are also likely, especially in northern parts of the UK.
