UK's most popular supermarket named and its not Lidl, Tesco or Asda

The UK’s most popular supermarket has been named - and it's not Lidl, Tesco, Asda or Sainsbury’s.

A recent YouGov study found that Aldi is in fact the nation’s favourite supermarket. Shoppers rated the bargain retailer ahead of M&S, Lidl and the ‘Big Four’ supermarkets, according to the polling data.

YouGov Ratings uses millions of responses to continually monitor what the UK thinks about thousands of things, from people and products to brands. This time around, YouGov asked people which UK supermarket was their favourite - and Aldi was a clear winner.

It comes at the same time as the retailer attracted an additional 1.6m shoppers as people look to save money amid rising energy, mortgage and tax bills. An independent price comparison by trade magazine The Grocer also found that the Big Four supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons – were on average 19% more expensive than Aldi.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “With so many costs rising right now, customers want to know they can still afford to treat themselves to high-quality food and drink without breaking the bank.

“Aldi is the only supermarket to offer that unbeatable combination of great quality products at low prices. We believe that’s why British shoppers have, once again, voted us the nation’s favourite.”
