If you thought owning a petrol station meant a little cheaper fuel, you’d be wrong. The increase in fuel prices has affected vast swathes of society including the owner of one of the world’s first petrol stations which has been open since 1895.
Ross Molloy who owns RGM Brailsford Garage says he wouldn't be able to afford diesel from his own pumps. Addressing the fuel price hikes over the past year, Mr Molloy said that although some facilities may be marking up prices to increase profits, the majority need the hike just to break even.
Mr Molloy’s higher prices are down to his diesel supplier who prefers him to bulk-purchase fuel instead of the smaller amount that is needed by the garage. He said the blame for higher prices often falls on retailers when it actually filters on from the station’s supplier.
