The University of Pikeville is hosting the UK men’s basketball team this weekend. There won’t be a winner or a loser in this game, though. UK fans will get a look at this season’s team in their annual Blue-White scrimmage.
Ticket revenue from the game at Appalachian Wireless Arena will go to the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief fund.
Tony Neely is Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at UK Athletics. He said eastern Kentucky U-K fans will enjoy the experience.
“Beforehand there will be a fan fest with fan activities outside Appalachian Wireless Arena. The team will arrive about four o’clock and they’ll have a chance to briefly greet some of the fans as they go into the arena and so I think it’ll be a fun night,” said Neely.
There will also be a UK basketball pregame show as part of the festivities.
Neely added it’ll be nice to play in a different place with a set of fans they don’t normally see.
“There’s no doubt that the fans throughout Kentucky but especially eastern Kentucky hold the Kentucky Wildcat Men’s Basketball Team near and dear to their heart and so we’re expecting great fan support and enthusiasm and appreciation when we have the scrimmage on Saturday,” said Neely.
Neely said in addition to the game, members of the team will participate in a community service event to continue flood relief efforts.
The game tips off at 6 p.m. Saturday.
