Travel experts have urged people to book quickly if they're planning to go on a package break this year.
This year the price of package holidays has risen significantly, due to a number of factors including the cost of plane fuel.
Consumer magazine Which? has said that prices have risen by as much as 19% year on year at mainstream travel destinations.
The publication's travel editor, Rory Boland, has urged people to book early and fast to avoid being caught by further possible price rises in 2023.
A study of the main holidays destinations for Brits - Spain, Greece, Portugal. Italy, Cyprus and Turkey - found that it cost on average 30% more than last year, with an average price of £867 per person this summer.
Prices have gone up by a fifth or more to Spain, Turkey and Italy, while Cyprus has seen a rise of 15%, according to data sourced from Travelsupermarket parent Ice Travel Group.
Spain still offered the cheapest deals, with a week’s package holiday costing £693pp.
As was reported earlier this week, there has been a big increase in the cost of plane tickets.
Flights have seen the most significant increases, with prices this Easter up a 51% on average compared with last year.
The cost of direct flights to 15 destinations in Spain, France, Italy, Greece and the US from six of the UK’s busiest airports was analysed using from air fares analyst Skytra.
It found Italy and Greece have seen the highest rises, with fares up 71% in both cases.
The US, which has the highest average fares at £1,527 per seat, saw the smallest price increase, at just under a third (31%).
Mr Boland said: “Travellers are likely to experience significantly higher prices than they’re used to for a trip away this year, with huge demand for holidays combining with inflationary pressure to create a perfect storm of spiralling costs.
“Flights in particular have seen some of the steepest price rises so far, with our research finding flights to popular destinations including Greece and Italy up 71% compared to last year.”
According to Abta research, around three in five people are planning a trip abroad in 2023, with TUI last month forecasting sales in 2023 would approach 2019 levels.
