- The inquiry follows the 2026 contest where the UK entry by Look Mum No Computer placed last after receiving just a single point in total and zero points from the public vote.
- Despite five historical Eurovision victories, the UK has finished in last place more times than it has won over the past three decades, with Sam Ryder 's second-place finish in 2022 being the sole exception to consistent bottom-half results since 2009.
- The parliamentary probe comes ahead of the 2027 competition in Burgas, Bulgaria, which will mark 30 years since Katrina and the Waves secured the UK's last Eurovision victory in 1997.
