Conor McGregor returns at UFC 329 this weekend on a fight card that also includes Paddy Pimblett.
McGregor makes his long-awaited return to the octagon in Las Vegas in a second showdown with Max Holloway at welterweight, 13 years after the pair first met at featherweight on the prelim bill of UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs Sonnen - with a young and up-and-coming McGregor winning by decision on just his second UFC outing.
‘Notorious’ has not fought now for five years, with his last bout coming back in August 2021, when he suffered a gruesome leg break during the first round of his trilogy fight against rival Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Former featherweight and lightweight champion McGregor - who turns 38 next week - was initially supposed to return at UFC 303 two summers ago, but withdrew from a scheduled clash with Michael Chandler due to a toe injury.
Now he is set to meet Holloway, a fellow UFC veteran and ex-featherweight champion who lost the ceremonial ‘BMF’ title he won with that unforgettable last-second knockout of Justin Gaethje in his last fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March.
Holloway previously beat Poirier in the latter’s retirement fight and saw another featherweight title attempt dismissed by Ilia Topuria. The 34-year-old now steps up to welterweight for the first time in his career.
Co-headlining UFC 329 is Liverpool favourite Pimblett, with ‘Paddy the Baddy’ out to bounce back quickly from his maiden UFC defeat by Gaethje at UFC 324 in January as he battles France’s No5-ranked lightweight contender Benoit Saint Denis, who is on a run of four straight victories having knocked out both Dan Hooker and Beneil Dariush.
Elsewhere on Saturday’s main card, there is an intriguing tussle between bantamweight duo Cory Sandhagen and Mario Bautista in a rematch of their 2019 fight which Sandhagen won with an early submission.
London’s Lone'er Kavanagh will look to continue his momentum in a battle with former flyweight title contender Brandon Royval, while King Green - a former lightweight opponent of Pimblett’s - is up against Terrance McKinney.
