As kick off was delayed at the Champions League Final in Paris last May, a message was displayed prominently on giant screens inside the Stade de France.
"Due to the late arrival of fans, the match has been delayed. Further information will follow in 15 minutes maximum." Another message talked of a security issue.
The messages, particularly that first one, infuriated those Liverpool fans who had just managed to make it through the chaos and into the ground. Many thousands remained stranded and in real danger outside, forced into harrowing crushes while being indiscriminately attacked with pepper spray by police.
