Over the weekend, U.S. military transport planes conducted aid drops over Gaza, delivering essential supplies to those in need. Today, a total of 27,000 meals and nearly 26,000 bottles of water were distributed to the region.
Additionally, the U.S. Army Vessel General Frank S. Besson set sail from Norfolk, Virginia, carrying equipment to establish a temporary pier in Gaza. This initiative was announced by President Biden during his recent State of the Union address.
While there are two Israeli ports located north of Gaza, the checkpoints leading to them are controlled by Israel. The Pentagon has yet to outline its strategy for ensuring security and the safe distribution of aid without deploying U.S. troops on the ground in Gaza. U.S. officials have made it clear that they do not intend to send military personnel into the region.
