Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte date set for Wembley Stadium fight after contracts signed

Tyson Fury's return to the ring has been confirmed, with Dillian Whyte penning his contract for the bout that is expected to take place in April.

The initial hope was to have the bout take place in March but significant delays put that out of the picture - but it won't be too long after that Fury takes to the ring.

An April 23rd date is now widely reported to have been set for the heavyweight blockbuster, with Wembley Stadium set to play host to the bout after Whyte penned his contract in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A 6am deadline was in place, midnight in Mexico where the WBC is based, and contracts have now been submitted to the governing body.

Cardiff's Principality Stadium was among the contenders to host the event but the home of English football is set to be confirmed as the venue - marking Fury's first fight at the stadium.

Fury has previously fought across the road at the Wembley Arena but his bout with Whyte will have significantly higher attendance, with the 90,000 venue expected to be a sell out.

The Gypsy King has not fought in the UK since 2019, with his three trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder, against whom he won the heavyweight belt, all taking place in the United States.

Attention on the fight is therefore high in itself but has the additional boost of being the final hurdle before a likely unification bout.

That clash, against the victor of the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, is likely to take place later this year and would be one of the biggest boxing events this side of the millennia.

Not since the mid-90's has there been a unified heavyweight champion, while the winner has the additional honour of being the first unified champion of the four-belt heavyweight era.

For Fury, Whyte has to be the immediate focus though and the countdown to April 23rd has now been initiated.
