Tyson Fury "chucks money down the toilet" by betting on boxing underdogs

Tyson Fury has admitted he "chucks money down the toilet" when he bets on underdogs at boxing events.

The world heavyweight champion isn't much of a gambler, but does occasionally put small amounts on underdogs at boxing events, who very rarely return big payouts for him. However, he prefers the occasional big victory to small ones he would have if he were to back favourites.

"I sometimes bet on football and I bet the other night on boxing," Fury said during his BT Sport face-off with Derek Chisora, who is a huge 11/1 underdog heading into their fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. "I rarely get one right, to be fair. I always back the underdogs and I think if I'm putting £50 on I want £5,000 returning, I don't want, like £75.

"I bet all the underdogs and I always lose my £50 or £100, it's just like chucking money down the toilet, basically. But that's what it is, we do things and it's a fight."

As such, fans with Fury's mindset would likely be betting against the world heavyweight champion on Saturday night. He is an unbackable 1/33 favourite having already comfortably beaten Chisora twice earlier in his career, while his rival is a huge underdog.

There have been criticisms of the match-making for Saturday's event, particularly given that there had been serious talks underway between Fury's team and Anthony Joshua for a prospective match-up. But it appears a big crowd is still expected at the London venue, with around 60,000 tickets reportedly sold.

It will be Fury's second bout on home soil this year after he knocked out Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium back in April, although it's a much less attractive clash than that mandatory challenge. Oleksandr Usyk is believed to be next for Fury should he get through Chisora as expected, with that bout believed to take place early next year.

"If he's going to beat me he has to knock me out," Fury said of Chisora during the face-off. "The same as everybody has to knock me out, nobody's going to beat me on points, I throw so many hundreds of punches, so they can't beat me on points and they have to knock me out.

"Listen, anybody can knock anybody out, I'm not Mr super-human. I've been put down plenty of times, but keeping me there is a different story. If any man in this world including Wilder, including anybody, is lacking, he will find them out and he will knock them out. Every time I watch him fight, I'm like 'come on!' All my kids are Derek Chisora fans, they grew up watching this man."
