Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will face off on Wednesday evening as fears recede over their December 11 showdown being called off.
Barring any late developments, the fierce British rivals will be present at a press conference in London to ignite the build-up to their seismic heavyweight clash at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
Fury and Zuffa Boxing boss Dana White stated over the weekend that the fight was in jeopardy because of an ongoing feud between White and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, who has been Joshua’s long-standing promoter.
Hearn disputed White’s involvement after the American boss of UFC was officially named as a promoter alongside The Ring, which is owned by Saudi Arabian powerbroker Turki Alalshikh.
And Hearn appears to have got his way, with White expected to be absent from the press conference having also lost the battle to stage the fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
In an Instagram post published on Tuesday, Hearn said: “Chapter 35. Chat s*** get banged #Dec11” in reference to it being Joshua’s 35th bout and Fury’s recent outbursts on social media directed at the Olympic gold medallist.
Hearn and Joshua campaigned for the event to be held in the UK, with the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium’s retractable roof making it the obvious choice in December, particularly with Wembley’s 11pm curfew posing a problem for American broadcasters.
Fury is odds-on favourite to win a fight that has been a decade in the making but has repeatedly fallen through.
Neither boxer is operating at the pinnacle of the division any longer, but Joshua has been knocked down six times across seven rounds in his two most recent outings against recognised opponents Daniel Dubois and Kristian Prenga.
Fury, meanwhile, laboured to wins against Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach following his exit from retirement earlier this year and is facing one of the best finishers in the game in power-punching Joshua.
