Tyson Fury addresses Dillian Whyte's "cheat" claims after world title defeat

Tyson Fury has admitted that he was "let down" after Dillian Whyte branded him a cheat in the aftermath of their Wembley showdown.

The world heavyweight champion finally gave Whyte his mandatory opportunity at the WBC belt after years of missing out, and dominated his British rival for six rounds before stopping him with a huge uppercut. But Whyte claimed that he was pushed on his way down, and as such hit the back of his head on the canvas.

And Fury believes that Whyte's excuse for losing their showdown is "bulls***', claiming that the boxer's head didn't even hit the canvas as he insists. Fury believes that his rival is one of the best heavyweights in the world, but argues that there are levels between the pair.

"It's a little bit of a letdown, to be fair," Fury told the Queensberry Promotions YouTube channel. "He took it like a man on the night, didn't make any excuses like the old Bronze Bomber [Wilder].

"And then he's come out with a load of bulls*** after the fight that he was pushed over and his head hit the canvas. So I watched it, he got chinned and he was going to fall on top of me so I shoved him off.

"Then his head didn't even hit the canvas, his head didn't hit off the floor - watch the video! His head did not touch the canvas once, so I'm not sure which video he's got but the ones I've seen myself it was a one-sided beatdown and a clean knockout. He landed about three punches on me in the whole fight."

Whyte had only lost twice in his career prior to facing Fury; a freak knockout by Alexander Povetkin that he avenged in a rematch and a stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua for the British and Commonwealth titles. And Fury believes that his bout with Joshua had been razor-close until the future two-time champion landed his big shot in the seventh round.

"You see what Dillian Whyte did with all these other opponents he's ever faced," Fury continued. "Like Oscar Rivas, the No.1 WBC challenger or the Lucas Brownes of the world. Even Anthony Joshua, they were having a real 50-50 fight until he got chinned at the end of it.

"The Povetkin fight, Joseph Parker, they all punched each other to pieces, no-one has ever done [what I did] to Dillian Whyte before. He's been knocked out before, but not by a one-sided beatdown like that which was probably humiliating for him.

"He was ranked No.1, WBC diamond champion, avoided by everybody in the world for years and all of a sudden he gets his opportunity, doesn't want to play ball and he thought that would hurt the show but that didn't work, then he goes in there and gets an absolute beatdown and knocked unconscious and doesn't land any punches at all.

"So he got what he wanted and I don't think it went the way he thought it would go, or his team. That's just tough luck for them, they called out the big GK [Gypsy King], called me a coward, this and that and he got what was coming and I couldn't have done any better."
