Tyrone man killed in Australia accident named locally as tributes pour in

An Irishman who died following an accident in Australia has been named as a local Co Tyrone man.

Aidan Molloy, who was living in Brisbane at the time of the tragic accident was born and raised in Cookstown.

He passed away in a hospital in the Australian city last Thursday, but the circumstances of his death have not yet been confirmed.

It is understood the father-of-two had been injured just days before his death on July 28.

The death notice confirmed: “Molloy (Brisbane, Australia, formally Cookstown, Co. Tyrone), July 28, Aiden Plunkett RIP.

“Died peacefully in hospital after an accident. Beloved father of Seamus and Sinéad. Cherished son of Rita and Seamus.

“Loving brother of Gerard, Irene (McCreesh) and Ita (Brady) also in-laws Joanne, Martin, and Conor. Deeply regretted by the mother of his children Susan. St Oliver Plunkett and St Padre Pio pray for him.

“Fondly remembered by his children, former spouse, parents, brother, sisters, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.”

Posting on Facebook, Pomeroy Plunketts GAC offered their "sincere condolences” to Irene and the Molloy family on the passing of Aidan.

"Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time,” they wrote.

SDLP councillor Kerri Hughes also said she was "very sorry for the family’s loss, it’s tragic. I’m sure it’s been very difficult given how far away he was," she said.

"Everyone will be thinking of them and willing to offer support."
