Tyrone and Fermanagh community heroes awarded birthday honours

A number of local faces from Co Tyrone and Co Fermanagh were awarded as part of the King’s birthday honours list this week.

Among those honoured was Sean Dillon, the principal of Coalisland primary school, Primate Dixon.

Sean has been widely praised for the school’s efforts to provide free meals and other incentives for pupils and parents during the recent cost-of-living crisis.

Sean has been awarded an MBE for his service to education in Northern Ireland.

Another Co Tyrone man who picked up an OBE was the founder of Dromore-based machinery auction firm Euro Auctions, Derek Keys.

Derek along with his brothers founded the company which is now believed to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds. He has been awarded an OBE for services to the economy.

Enniskillen woman Genevieve Irvine has been awarded a BEM for services to people affected by cancer in Co Fermanagh.

Genevieve co-founded the local cancer support group three years ago and has helped hundreds of local people affected by a cancer diagnosis in the county.

The full list of people awarded birthday honours from the Tyrone and Fermanagh areas is as follows:

OBE:

Derek Keys, Euro Auctions founder. For services to the economy.

MBE:

Sean Dillon, Principal, Primate Dixon Primary School, Coalisland, County Tyrone.

For services to Education in Northern Ireland.

Mary McGee. Business Engagement Officer, Mid Ulster Council. For services to Tourism in Northern Ireland.

BEM:

Gail Boyd. For voluntary services to the community in the Clogher Valley, Co Tyrone.

Francis Callaghan. For Voluntary Services to the community in Co Tyrone and Co Fermanagh

Mary Daly. For services to young people and to the community in the Clogher Valley, Co Tyrone.

Pamela Glasgow Baxter. Founder AUsome Kids. For services to children with autism in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

Genevieve Irvine. Founder, SWELL - Supported We Live Life. For services to people affected by cancer in Co Fermanagh.

Roberta McMullan. Leader and Treasurer, 2nd Benburb Boys Brigade. For services to young people in Co Tyrone and Co Armagh.
