Tyrell Malacia's transfer will lead to three Man Utd players leaving the club this summer

Manchester United are edging closer to a move for Feyenoord's Tyrell Malacia - which could mean a change in their situation at left-back.

The Dutch youngster was set for a move to Lyon, but Red Devils have managed to steal a march and they are closing in on a £14m deal. The 22-year-old has now told the Ligue 1 club that he wants to join Erik ten Hag in the Premier League and talks are progressing.

Malacia is seen as a rival for Luke Shaw, who has long commanded the left-back spot, albeit he endured a difficult campaign last term. Nevertheless, he remains firmly in Ten Hag's Old Trafford plans and Malacia will keep him on his toes going forward.

The imminent arrival of the Dutchman though will see United let three of their other left-back options leave as they continue to overhaul the squad. Alex Telles, who was signed from Porto back in the summer of 2020, has never been able to establish himself in Manchester.

As a result he will be moved on, as will academy graduate Brandon Williams. The player headed out on loan last term to Norwich City in search of more minutes. His exit, this time, is set to be a permanent one, reports The Times. Malacia's signing could also see another youth product seek pastures new.

Alvaro Fernandez, who was the club's U23 Player of the Year last term, will look to get opportunities elsewhere. The 19-year-old was included in matchday squads last term and will be included on the club's pre-season tour. Despite that the Manchester Evening News report a loan could be on the cards if a new left-back does arrive.

United have already seen a host of players leave this summer - the majority of whom saw their contracts expire. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani have all departed Manchester, which leaves the club looking for reinforcements.

Frenkie De Jong has been their No.1 target throughout the summer as Ten Hag looks to reunite with the midfielder. Barcelona have accepted an offer of £70m, although there are differing reports on whether the players wants to move to the Premier League.

A centre-half is also on United's radar, although they have already been knocked back by Ajax star Jurrien Timber. They will now pursue his teammate and Argentine international Lisandro Martinez, who is also on interest to Arsenal with United set to bid £40m for the centre-half.
