Evo has announced a live Street Fighter 6 showmatch between Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp and Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren for June 26 at Evo 2026 in Las Vegas.
The set is called Modern vs. Classic because the players themselves prefer different control schemes: Tyler1 uses the modern control scheme with auto-combos, while Ludwig prefers the old-school way.
None of the players are FGC staples, but both have played fighting games before, particularly Street Fighter 6. Tyler1 has even streamed more than 80 hours of the game, showing his competitive drive and actually taking his time to improve at the game.
Ludwig has played the game as well, and this will not be their first set either. They tried playing almost a year ago, with Tyler1 preparing Modern Ken, while Ludwig had an E.Honda surprise for him in store.
They played two sets of first-to-3, and both went to the final game. Unfortunately, both times their connection dropped at the most tense moment, with both players having roughly the same remaining health and no big advantage.
The players will face off on stage during Evo 2026 in Las Vegas, though it’s currently unknown what format the showmatch will happen in, or if it will happen during or before the final Top 8 at the grand stage on the final day.
Tyler1 and Ludwig are far from being the pioneer top streamers in trying out fighting games. Lily “LilyPichu” Ki took Tekken 8 very seriously, got coaching from PhiDX, and even defeated Katsuhiro Harada live on stage at Evo 2024.
Evo Las Vegas still remains Evo’s flagship event, but from 2027 onwards, the series looks to be expanding into new regions, with tournaments in Brazil, Morocco, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and China after the unexpected acquisition by Qiddiya Investment Company and RTS.
