Mileidy Mendoza and Sandra Rosales stood vigil at the gates of a detention center in Venezuela’s capital as a police officer barked names into the night.

All freed just hours into Valentine’s Day thanks to the work of Mendoza, Rosales and more than two dozen other women who dared to challenge their authoritarian government.
