A man and a girl were seriously injured when their pickup truck crashed through a barrier and plummeted from an elevated expressway in Ratchathewi district, Bangkok, early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on the Sri Rat expressway above Rom Ratchathewi public park on Ratchadapan (Mor Leng) Road in Makkasan sub-district about 4.30am.

The grey pickup with the Bangkok licence plate 3 Thor Ngo 2087 landed on a pile of concrete rubble. The two people in the vehicle were severely injured - the driver, a man in his 30s, and a girl aged 3-4 years. Rescuers rushed them to hospital.

A construction worker said he heard a loud crash on the elevated expressway, looked up and saw the pickup fall onto a pile of concrete rubble. The driver got out of the vehicle, his face covered in blood. The young girl was trapped inside.

On the expressway, police found a damaged concrete barrier at a Y-shaped junction on the elevated expressway.

The police investigation was continuing.

Rescue workers help the injured at the crash scene.
