Two NASCAR Cup car chiefs ejected after Atlanta inspection failures

Following NASCAR Cup Series inspection at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta), the Sanctioning Body has revealed that two Chevrolet teams failed pre-qualifying inspection multiple times.

The first was Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Car chief Ryan Chism has been ejected and can take no further part in the race weekend from the track, and the team will lose pit stall selection. Dillon's car ultimately passed on its third attempt.

The second driver/team to fail inspection twice was BJ McLeod and the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet -- a part-time, unchartered entry. Car chief Ryan Henderson has been ejected, and the team will also lose their pit stall selection for the upcoming race weekend.

NASCAR noted that the No. 78 had yet to pass as of Friday evening, and needed to be re-inspected in Saturday morning for their third attempt. Another failure would have resulted in a drive-through penalty at the start of Sunday's race, but there were no further reported issues.

Qualifying was ultimately cancelled due to rain and lightning in the area, which means Daytona 500 winner Tyler Reddick will start from pole position. Dillon will start 33rd and McLeod 37th in Sunday's race, as per the metric (an average of 30% owner points position and 70% the entry's finish in the previous race).
