Two Iowa nursing homes have been added to the federal list of facilities eligible for its most intensive oversight program after inspectors linked care failures to the deaths of two residents. Adel Acres in Adel and Northbrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids are now candidates for special-focus status, KCRG reported on Oct. 15, republishing reporting by the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
At Adel Acres, inspectors said a resident fell and died of blunt force head trauma after staff failed to promptly intervene and assess the resident. At Northbrook, inspectors said a resident whose catheter was not properly monitored developed acute kidney injury and sepsis, was moved to hospice, and died in February.
