Two Edinburgh restaurants vie for top title at Scotland's 'best curry' awards

Edinburgh could soon be confirmed as the home of Scotland's 'best curry' after two capital restaurants were shortlisted for a top industry prize.

The shortlist for the 2022 Spice Awards has now been revealed and there are several Edinburgh contenders across various different categories. One of the most highly-sought after is the 'best curry' award and eight eateries are in with a shot of landing the prestigious title next month.

And nominated in the category this year are two capital favourites. First up is the much-loved Prahna Indian Grill, which serves up 'a unique Indian dining experience' on St John's Road in Corstorphine.

As recently as April, we reported on the hugely popular eatery, which according to TripAdvisor reviews is considered Edinburgh's best Indian restaurant. The team took to social media to share their delight at the nomination, while they're also up for the best restaurant in the East of Scotland prize too.

They commented: "We are delighted to announce that we've been recognised as finalists in the 4th Spice Awards 2022/23 for both Best Curry and Best Restaurant - East.

"To have even been short-listed for these awards is an incredible honour. We hope that you continue to support us as much as you have done over the years and no matter the result, we are extremely proud of our staff and restaurant ."

The other Edinburgh name on the best curry shortlist is Morningside's Masti Indian restaurant, described as serving the 'best Indian street food' in the capital. Specialising in the likes of Biryani, Tandoori Chicken, Chilli Chicken and our most loved Samosa Chaat, they say 'our chefs cook authentic delicious Indian dishes that you will love'.

In June, we reported on Masti's expansion after they decided to open a second restaurant in Fountainbridge.

Ahead of the 'legendary gala final' taking place in Glasgow next month, the organisers say: "Spice Awards is unique in its approach by opening voting to those that engage most with the industry – the public themselves!

"Our independent voting campaign runs annually. We invite communities from across the country to support their favourite local and national businesses by voting for them via our online voting system.

"We pride ourselves in being the fairest contest in the country, handing power over to the people who really matter, the general public. The public will be invited to vote for their favourite venues/businesses across Scotland, businesses with the most votes in each category will make the final, it’s as simple as that.

"Not everyone can walk away a winner on the night but those that do will be the very best of the nation’s favourites!"

Several other Edinburgh establishments will be hoping to take a prize home at this year's Spice Awards. To find out more about the awards and the various categories, make sure to visit the Spice Awards website here.
