A 44-year-old man with no prior medical history had been steeping star fruit in white liquor for about a month, roughly four fruits per 500 grams of liquor. In early April 2025, he drank about 500 milliliters of it. The next day he felt unwell. Three days after that he went to the hospital with a low grade fever, no appetite, nausea and an ache in his lower back.
His creatinine came back at 393 micromoles per liter. The reference range at that hospital tops out at 97. The next morning it was 540.
