Two brothers trapped car wash worker inside Nottingham phone shop and beat him

A car wash worker was dragged into a phone shop and beaten by two brothers after he stole five plastic containers of chemicals in revenge over not being paid, a court was told. The victim had worked at Redhill Hand Car wash, in Mansfield Road, Redhill, which is owned by Shalow Omer, who also runs Mobile Point phone repairs, in Alfreton Road, Radford.

But after just three days in the job, the victim did not turn up and his job was voluntarily terminated. But Nottingham Crown Court was told the man claimed he was still owed pay - and stole five plastic containers of chemicals, called TFT, in revenge.

Without the 1,000 litres of chemicals, the car wash had to temporarily close as more was sourced. The victim had left the business with the cans making obscene gestures at the CCTV - knowing perfectly well he would be captured on the footage for his "minor act of revenge", the court was told.

Despite reporting the theft to police, business owner, Shalow Omer, recruited his brother, Shaho Omer, and the man was dragged into Shalow's other shop, Mobile Point phone repairs, on October 29 last year.

Once the man was dragged and trapped inside, another car wash worker, Bahroz Rashid, aided and encouraged the brothers on a video call to beat the man, with Shalow Omer using a plank of wood. Rashid asked the man to pay £1,000 for the chemicals he stole.

Battered and bruised, eventually the victim was allowed to leave, said Adam Smith, prosecuting, and he called police. He said in a statement he was slapped to the face "all over" and on his head a number of times.

He was left with swollen cheeks and a reddened face. His head and face ached. He had a limp when he walked and struggled to stand.

He stopped going out and had to have further appointments with his doctor. No further action was taken against him by police over the stolen chemicals.

John Higgins, representing, Shalow Omar, who was jailed for 21 months for assault, causing bodily harm and false imprisonment, said his client started the car wash in 2018, and the mobile phone shop followed.

Of the incident, he said negotiations opened for the victim to return the chemicals - but he returned with one cannister, and Shalow Omar, 30, of The Cliff, Bulwell, lost his temper. Mr Higgins stressed the victim was not "held hostage".

Brother Shaho, 23, of Manifold Gardens, The Meadows, was handed 19 months in prison after admitting assaults, causing bodily harm, and false imprisonment. He kicked and slapped the man repeatedly.

Rashid, 52, of Claygate, Carlton, admitted assault, causing bodily harm, and was jailed for 18 months. Neil Baki, mitigating, said: "He was on the end of a video call."

Judge Steven Coupland sentenced the trio after they pleaded guilty, and imposed a five-year restraining order to stay away from the victim, who he said was left frightened by what they did and anxious is might happen again.
