Two Akanksha Singhs Claim UPSC Rank 301, Controversy Awaits Official Clarification

According to reports by PTI, two candidates with the same name — Akanksha Singh — from different states are claiming the same rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025. The dispute revolves around rank 301, with both candidates asserting that the position belongs to them.

One of the claimants, Akanksha Singh from Ara in Bihar, says she secured the 301st rank in her second attempt. She is the granddaughter of Brahmeshwar Singh, the founder of the banned militia Ranvir Sena, who was murdered in 2012.

Speaking about her success, she said she had been confident about clearing the exam this time and described the achievement as fulfilling her grandfather’s dream.

She also highlighted the disciplined approach she followed during her preparation.

“I used to study 8–10 hours a day. My parents played a great role in my success. Last year, when I failed to clear the exam, they kept supporting me without any frustration or anger,” she said.

Meanwhile, another candidate named Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh has also claimed that the same rank belongs to her. She alleged that her identity was being misused and raised the issue on social media.

In a Facebook post, she wrote that someone else was impersonating her identity while claiming the rank. To support her claim, she shared documents that she said included her original identification details and e-summon.

The situation became even more confusing after an admit card began circulating on social media showing the same name and roll number. This document further fueled speculation and debate online.

However, there appears to be one key difference between the documents associated with the two claims. While the name and roll number seem identical, the fathers’ names mentioned in the records are different.

With both candidates asserting ownership of rank 301, attention has now turned to the UPSC for an official clarification. Until the commission issues a statement resolving the matter, the unusual case of two candidates with the same name claiming the same rank continues to generate discussion online.
