The Tennessee Titans made a surprising pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft when they selected Auburn cornerback Roger McCreary with the No. 35 overall selection.
It’s surprising because the Titans looked to be mostly set at the position going into 2022. After all, they have Caleb Farley and Kristian Fulton set to man the outside, with Elijah Molden working out of the slot.
If anything, we expected Tennessee to target a corner in the later rounds, but certainly not this early.
On the surface, it doesn’t seem like there’s a place for McCreary, but perhaps the Titans aren’t totally confident in Farley, or maybe they plan on moving Molden to safety if Amani Hooker can’t be retained in 2023.
I tend to lean on the former notion, though.
Whatever the case may be, McCreary brings versatility to Nashville, as he can play on the boundary or out of the slot, and he’s capable of playing man and zone coverage.
Here’s a look at how Twitter reacted to the Titans’ selection of the Auburn product.
