Irish celebrities Emmett J Scanlan, Greg O’Shea, Victoria Smurfit and Thalia Heffernan have reacted to shocking animal testing footage.
The new PETA video urges Irish people to sign our European citizens’ initiative (ECI), which is calling for a transition to animal-free science and the strengthening of the EU ban on cosmetics testing on animals.
The clip opens with a crying Victoria Smurfit and an upset Emmett J Scanlan as they react to videos of animals being tortured in European laboratories.

In the video, Greg O’Shea says: “I didn’t realise they’re actually, like, nearly torturing these animals and breaking their spines, killing them and chopping their heads off. It’s just disgusting.”
Model Thalia Heffernan said: “It’s forceful tubing down necks, it’s removal of body parts, it’s no anaesthesia, it’s cruelty.”
A frustrated Emmett said: “I’m getting really angry. Turn it off, yep, turn it off.”
In 2021, Thalia revealed she turned down big paychecks in order to maintain her morals throughout her career as she promotes a vegan and cruelty free lifestyle.
Thalia told the Irish Mirror: “It definitely has cost me things.
“And I’ve definitely had to say no and dig my heels in every now and again, but I think that merits respect in itself.
“It’s much easier for me to say yes and take the money and go, but I think in life if you sell yourself short, you are the only person that has to stand to test to it in the end.”
“As hard as it is saying no to big pay cheques and brilliant collaborations with people, staying true to myself has brought me many brilliant things.
“Sometimes it is not easy in the short-term, but it almost always works out in the long-term.
“And I think that stands to you,” she added at the time.
