Tua Tagovailoa accomplished a feat that even Dan Marino never did

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been playing the best football of his professional career this year.

Through eight games, the former Crimson Tide signal-caller has completed 71% of his passes for 2,265 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions with a league-leading 118.4 passer rating.

In all seven contests that Tagovailoa has started and finished, the Dolphins are undefeated, while they’re winless in the three other weeks. Fans and analysts have even started to buy stock in the quarterback’s MVP case.

What’s more impressive is Tagovailoa’s recent string of three victories has put him ahead of Dolphins legends like Dan Marino. After the win over the Browns on Sunday, Tagovailoa became the first quarterback in Dolphins’ history to have three straight games with at least three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Miami has done a lot to make sure that Tagovailoa has all of the support he needs. They brought in an offensive-minded head coach in Mike McDaniel, who has a system that’s quarterback-friendly. They brought in two solid veterans on the offensive line to solidify one of the worst units in the league. And, potentially the most impactful change, was the acquisition of Tyreek Hill, pairing him with Jaylen Waddle.

As things are currently constituted, Tagovailoa is playing like a top quarterback in the NFL, and he looks like he’s ready to help the Dolphins make a postseason run.
