President Donald Trump has warned that Camp Lejeune water contamination claimants could receive no further settlement money if Republicans lose control of Congress in the 3 November midterm elections. The warning comes as the Department of Justice (DOJ) reports more than $879 million in payouts, with many claims still awaiting resolution.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Greenville, North Carolina, on 20 October, Trump said he would direct the DOJ to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible if Republicans retained control of both chambers of Congress. If they lost, he said, there would be no money.
