Donald Trump Jr. revealed on his show, 'Triggered,' that he and President-elect Trump discussed the potential reordering of the White House press briefing room to provide more access to podcasters and independent journalists over legacy media outlets. The conversation took place during a discussion with podcaster Michael Knowles, who suggested the idea of rearranging the seating chart to prioritize certain individuals.
Trump Jr. shared that the idea emerged during a conversation on a plane trip back from the Space X launch with Elon Musk. The focus was on the podcast world and the desire to offer opportunities to independent journalists, considering the behavior of the media in recent times.
The discussion highlighted the notion of opening up the press room to a broader range of journalists, rather than solely based on seniority. Trump Jr. expressed concerns about the current system resembling how committees are assigned in Congress, where longevity often takes precedence over expertise.
He mentioned that the idea was well-received, and there are potential plans to implement changes in the press briefing room layout. Currently, the White House Correspondents Association is responsible for assigning the 49 permanent seats in the Brady Briefing Room, along with all booths and desks in the upper and lower workspace, with periodic reviews of assignments.
