The Donald Trump administration’s mass deportation program to El Salvador’s maximum security prison, CECOT, has faced a significant legal challenge after new evidence emerged from a United Nations document. U.S. District Court Judge Stephanie Gallagher has demanded answers from the administration about who has been telling the truth about control over the deportees.
According to MSNBC, the controversy started when Trump used the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport hundreds of people who were claimed to be members of a Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua. These deportations happened without proper legal procedures, and when a judge ordered the administration to stop the removals, they ignored the order, reflecting Trump’s ICE expansion of deportation authority.
