Trump Campaign Hacked, Suspected Iranian Interference In 2024 Election

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign recently announced that it had fallen victim to a hacking incident. The campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, stated that the breach involved the illegal acquisition of documents from within the campaign's operations by foreign entities hostile to the United States. These actions were believed to be aimed at disrupting the upcoming 2024 election and undermining the democratic process.

According to sources, the leaked documents were received via emails from an anonymous source. The Trump campaign attributed this cyber intrusion to foreign actors, specifically pointing to a recent report by Microsoft that highlighted increased efforts by Iranian operatives to influence and monitor the U.S. presidential election. The report mentioned instances of creating fake news outlets to target voters across the political spectrum and attempting to hack into the systems of an undisclosed presidential campaign.

Cheung referenced a specific incident in June 2024 when Iranian hackers allegedly breached the account of a high-ranking official associated with a U.S. presidential campaign. This timing coincided with President Trump's selection of a Vice Presidential nominee. The campaign spokesperson also alluded to previous reports of an Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump around the same period as a tragic event in Butler, PA.

Despite these claims, the exact responsibility of Iran in the hacking incident remains unclear, as the Microsoft report did not confirm the success of the intrusion. Questions have been raised regarding whether the Trump campaign has engaged law enforcement agencies in response to the breach. Sources have reached out to the FBI and the Department of Justice for further comments on the matter.

In light of these developments, the Trump campaign has cautioned against the dissemination of any leaked documents or internal communications, emphasizing that such actions would serve the interests of America's adversaries. The campaign reiterated its stance that President Trump's administration had effectively countered threats during his previous term and suggested that the current hacking incident was part of a broader effort to undermine U.S. democracy.
