US President Donald Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping whether China wanted to buy American weapons during a conversation between the two leaders, US Ambassador to China David Perdue said in a televised interview on 27 September. Perdue made the remark while discussing Trump's position on US arms sales to Taiwan and broader tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Perdue did not say when Trump made the comment or how Xi responded. The White House and State Department later clarified that there is no plan or offer to sell US weapons to China.
