Trump ally claims Infantino has taken Fifa to a ‘whole new level’

  • Fifa president Gianni Infantino is facing growing opposition to his re-election following an aborted plan to sell a 20 per cent stake in the World Cup to private investors.
  • However, he has received support from Donald Trump ally and former White House Task Force executive director Andrew Giuliani, who claims Infantino has taken Fifa to a “whole new level” and that his “jealous” critics should “get their head examined”.
  • New Zealand, Uefa, Concacaf, the Asian Football Confederation, and several individual associations including England have withdrawn their support for Infantino’s re-election.
  • The Confederation of African Football and South American governing body Conmebol maintain their endorsement of Infantino ahead of the Fifa Congress in March.
  • Infantino apologised for the commercial proposal, known as Fifa Forward Enterprise, which was subsequently scrapped.
