The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, his wife, and three other individuals, marking the latest move by the Trump administration to intensify pressure on the island nation's leadership. Havana immediately condemned the action.
Among those targeted by the new penalties are Alejandro Castro Espín, the only son of Raúl Castro, who served as an adviser to Cuba’s Defense and National Security Commission. He was notably present when Raúl Castro met with then-President Barack Obama in Havana during a significant visit in March 2016. Also included in the sanctions is Castro Espín's son, Raúl Alejandro Castro Calis.
