Truck runs over biker as victim falls on road after collision with car in Pune

PUNE: A truck ran over a motorcyclist as he fell on the road after colliding against the open rear door of a stationary car at Dukkarkhind on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass around 10.30pm on Thursday.

The Warje police identified the deceased biker as Bajirao Sominath Gadale (30) of Narhe. The police said Gadale first collided against the car’s rear door, which was open, and fell on the road. The truck trailing Gadale ran over him.

Sub-inspector Yash Padwale of the Warje police said, “We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against both, the car driver from Kondhwa and the truck driver, who ran away from the spot after the accident, after studying the accident scene. We found the abandoned truck near the accident spot. We have impounded it and the car."

He said, "We have served a notice to the car driver, while the search for the truck driver is going on. We have contacted the truck owner for further inquiry."

Padwale said, "Gadale was a crane operator at a construction site located in Hinjewadi. The accident occurred when he was going home after completing his work.”

He said, "The motorcycle rider, the car driver, and the truck were heading towards Katraj from Chandni Chowk. The car driver, a resident of Kondhwa, halted on the left lane of the bypass, which is not allowed. He kept the rear door open and the motorcyclist collided against the open door in the dark. He fell on the road surface and the truck ran over him," he said.
