Tropical Storm Rachel Nears Mexico's Pacific Coast: Travel, Family and Weather Risks for Latinos in the U.S

Tropical Storm Rachel is advancing along Mexico's Pacific coast with sustained winds of 75 km/h (47 mph), and its wide circulation is set to unleash very heavy rain across Guerrero and Oaxaca, two states tied by family and migration to countless Mexican and Latino households in the United States.

The system is moving west-northwest at 13 km/h (8 mph), with gusts reaching 95 km/h (59 mph). Laura Velázquez, head of Mexico's National Civil Protection Coordination, said the storm is expected to keep moving parallel to the national territory. That detail shapes the risk, but it does not erase it.
