Federal safety regulators are urging owners of about 393,000 Tristar Power Quick Pot pressure cookers to stop using them immediately, but the company is not offering refunds, repairs, or replacements. On Oct. 15, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers that the lids of the 6-quart cookers, model Y6D-36, can open while the cookers are still pressurized, causing hot contents to be expelled unexpectedly.
The CPSC said it has received 24 reports of the cookers expelling hot contents, resulting in serious burn injuries. The importer, Tristar Products Inc. of Altamonte Springs, Florida, has refused to recall the cookers or offer a remedy to consumers, according to the agency.
