Tributes pour in for 'top bloke' who was a 'character not easily forgotten'

Tributes have poured in for a "top bloke" who died after being hit by a bus in Bootle.

Norman Rigby was hit by a bus on Canal Street, near to the Bridgewater Complex, in Bootle, at around 3.55pm on Monday, November 7. Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews and fire service, rushed to the scene but the 63-year-old died in hospital a short time later.

Paying tribute to the dad, the family described him as having a "big impact on everyone he met." He was "a character not easily forgotten" as he leaves behind his loving friends and family.

Dozens of tributes are pouring in for Mr Rigby along with messages of support to his heart-broken family. ECHO reader Maddy Kellett said: "RIP Norman, how sad, thoughts are with his family" as Sonia Nimmo wrote: "R.I.P Norman gone too soon, thinking of Elaine and Sam at this sad time."

Mr Rigby had been described as a "top bloke" as Ste Scott added: "Thoughts are with his family." Michelle Grant said: "R.I.P. Norman sending our condolence's to all his family." Julie Bibby wrote: "Rip Angel thinking of the family and friends. God bless."

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from our Matrix Roads Policing Unit said: "Our sincere condolences go out to the family and we will be supporting them in the coming days after this tragic incident. Enquiries continue and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or captured anything on dashcam or other devices.

"You can contact us in various ways but ensure you pass on any information as soon as you can, so we can establish the circumstances. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call our Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 22000818150."
