Tributes paid to father killed after being hit by car as police arrest five on suspicion of murder

A family has paid an emotional tribute to a father who died after being hit by a car near Barnsley, as police arrested a fifth person on suspicion of murder.

Liam Green, 45, was struck by a white VW Tourareg on Rose Tree Avenue, Cudworth, at about 5pm on Friday, South Yorkshire Police said.

Emergency services attended, but Mr Green died at the scene.

South Yorkshire Police said a 17-year-old boy, a 38-year-old woman and two men aged 33 and 60 have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

On Sunday, a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. All five remain in police custody.

Paying tribute, Mr Green's family said: "We hope you're at peace now.

"We all love you very much, sending you big hugs from your mam, sons, brother and family."

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact officers.
