Heartfelt tributes have poured in for former One Direction member Liam Payne who reportedly died on Thursday.
The 31-year-old singer was found dead after falling from the third room of the Casa Sur Hotel in Palermo in Buenos Aries, Argentina. Police confirmed his death in a heartbreaking statement.
“Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo,” the statement read.
Citing officials, local publications La Nacion and Clarin reported that police were called to the hotel in Palermo, responding to an emergency call that cited “an aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”
Following news reports of his tragic passing, friends and celebrities alike have shared tributes to the pop star on social media.
Other celebrities including Charlie Puth, Ty Dolla $ign and Denise Lewis have taken to Instagram in tribute.
In a timely chat on The Kyle And Jackie O Show, British DJ Joel Corry reflected on his relationship with Liam and how he felt discovering the sad news early Thursday morning.
“In the summer of 2023, I played Soccer Aid with him, which is like a charity football match in the UK,” Joel told the show.
“We spent a few days together because he was playing with me, and it was the first time I’d ever met him. And he was so fun on the trip, and we had such a good time and we hung out together. And he was a really nice guy. And this is why when I heard the news just now, I couldn’t believe it took my breath away. I was like, oh my god.”
Fans of the “Strip That Down” singer have also struggled to come to terms with the news.
Liam’s One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan are yet to comment publicly on his passing. I think it’s fair to say that despite the differences they’ve had in the past, they’ll need time and space to process this horrible news.
