Trent McDuffie explains how Chiefs shut down Vikings WR Justin Jefferson

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t let the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive star power intimidate them in Week 5, and managed to hold superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson to just three receptions for 28 yards.

Second-year defensive back Trent McDuffie spoke about the strategies that Kansas City deployed to keep Jefferson at bay during his comments to the media after the Chiefs’ win.

“I think we just did a good job of getting our hands on him,” McDuffie explained. “He’s one of those guys where if you give him room, give him space he’s going to be able to work. He’s great with routes, he’s great with his hands so just trying to disrupt the timing. That was the big thing for us this week, making Kirk (Cousins) try to find him, make hard throws and make Jettas (Justin Jefferson) make a hard catch. I think we did a good job out there, especially LJ (L’Jarius Sneed) on the outside.”

The group effort to contain Minnesota’s offense is a great sign for Kansas City’s defense heading into the middle part of the team’s schedule. With more outings like the one they had against the Vikings, the reigning Super Bowl champions may establish themselves as the NFL’s top squad after a rocky start in Week 1.
