Trayce-Jackson Davis discusses Steve Kerr’s coaching style

Steve Kerr has achieved incredible success since taking over as the Golden State Warriors head coach in 2014. During his tenure in the Bay Area, Kerr has coached some of the most talented players of this generation. As such, he’s learned how to manage different personalities and egos.

That ability to reach and understand his players has impressed rookie big man Trayce Jackson-Davis. During a recent interview with “Steiny & Guru” on 95.7 The Game, the rookie noted how Kerr is always on hand to talk with his players and help them navigate whatever situation they’re dealing with.

“Coach Kerr is a player’s coach and whatever we need, he’s always helping us through situations,” Jackson-Davis said.

Jackson-Davis has clearly benefited from Kerr’s coaching style. The second-round draft pick has slowly established himself as a key piece of Golden State’s bench rotation, and he has impressed whenever he’s taken the court.

In 20 games, Jackson-Davis is averaging 4.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He shot 65% from the field. However, in his last five games, he is averaging a solid 11 points and 8.8 rebounds. It may be a smaller sample size, but those numbers point toward the growth and role development that Jackson-Davis has experienced during his first few months in the NBA.

Kerr’s ability to nurture and develop young talent has been questioned in recent years. However, this season, with the development of Jackson-Davis, Brandin Podziemski, and Jonathan Kuminga, it’s clear the veteran coach’s methods are starting to pay dividends.
