Travon Walker kept a promise to his dad with his Week 1 interception

Travon Walker recorded just one interception in three seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, but he promised his dad he’d record another one in the NFL. And Walker fulfilled that promise by stepping in front of a Carson Wentz screen pass Sunday.

“I called my dad and told him that I got a pick in practice in school, so I told him I was going to get one in a game,” Walker told reporters after the game. “So, it was special for me to actually get a pick in the game like I told my dad I was going to do.”

Walker, 21, returned the pick nine yards and set up the Jaguars offense with a golden opportunity in the red zone.

One play later, the Jaguars turned a 15-14 lead into a 22-14 advantage when James Robinson scored on an 11-yard rush.

Walker joined Kevin Hardy as the second player in Jacksonville history to record a sack and a fumble in their NFL debut. But the rookie also revealed that he made a crucial error after his big interception: he didn’t keep track of the ball.

“I don’t know where the ball went,” Walker told reporters.
