Tranmere Rovers to hold minute's applause in memory of Olivia Pratt-Korbel

Tranmere Rovers are set to hold a minute's applause in memory of Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Tranmere Rovers chairman Nicola Palios has revealed the club are planning a minute's applause after nine minutes during their Carabao Cup match against Newcastle at Prenton Park tonight. The applause is to remember Olivia Pratt-Korbel and show support for the family of the nine-year-old who was fatally shot in her home on Monday night.

The applause has been announced after a number of fans came forward and suggested to the club that it would be a way of remembering the schoolgirl, who lived on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot. In a statement, Nicola spoke about the tragic deaths of Olivia, Ashley Dale and Sam Rimmer - who have all lost their lives to gun crime in a week of violence that has shaken the city.

The statement said: "Everyone at Tranmere Rovers has been shocked and sickened by the senseless death of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

"We have a policy at Tranmere Rovers only to do an official minute's silence prior to a match following the death of someone very closely connected to the club, because otherwise it becomes impossible to choose whose passing to mark, without risk of offending the loved ones of those who aren't. Tragically, Olivia is one of three young people who have lost their lives to gun crime in Merseyside in the past 10 days, and the families of Ashley Dale and Sam Rimmer are also grieving.

"However we can and do support fans who want to show their respects for others, and a number have suggested a minute's applause in the 9th minute of the game, to show support for Olivia's family. We fully endorse this action, and hope that it serves as a mark of respect for all three families, and as a demonstration that we as a community are united against such pointless and mindless violence."

Olivia was shot after two men were shot at by a gunman while walking down Kingsheath Avenue at around 10pm on Monday, August 22, before one of the men being shot at ran into Olivia's home when Cheryl opened the front door to see what was happening. The gunman followed and shot at Olivia's mum as he tried to force the door open, with the bullet also hitting and killing the child.

The gunman then shot the 35-year-old man he had been chasing before running away. Merseyside Police are continuing to appeal for information relating to the shooting.
