Tram provider issues update as services partially cancelled

Nottinghamshire's tram provider has issued an update after a stretch of one of its routes was disrupted. An incident between the Hucknall and Bulwell stops last week has interrupted services since June 12, when a carriage collided with a pole at Bulwell on Monday after severe weather across Nottingham.

Phoenix Park and Clifton South services will operate as normal, but the Hucknall to Toton services will only operate between Wilkinson Street and Toton Lane. Now, NET has provided an update on the continuing repairs, predicting disruption could continue until the end of the week.

The tram provider said that engineers are continuing to work as quickly as possible to restore a full tram service between Hucknall and Toton Lane. Trevor Stocker, NET Head of Operations, said: “Trams to Hucknall are currently terminating at Wilkinson Street and we would like to apologise to customers for this ongoing disruption and thank them for their continued patience and understanding.

“Specialist equipment is now on site to help move a damaged tram, and once the line is clear our engineers can complete repairs to tracks and other infrastructure before restoring power to this section of the network.”

NET added that although this work is expected to take until the end of the week to complete, it will make "every effort" to restore services as soon as it can. Buses serving destinations between Wilkinson Street and Hucknall are accepting tram tickets, and further details can be found on the NET website.

Now commuters have shared their views on the continued disruption. Valarie Turner, 48, who lives in Bulwell said: “Luckily, I can drive but I do prefer getting the tram, it makes me feel more fit knowing I’m out and about and I’m getting my steps."

The school worker added: “I do understand not everyone drives so while I’m okay, I can see the continued cancellation is a big inconvenience to other people.” On the NET website, it reads that there is ‘no dedicated bus replacement from Hucknall.

The NCT Yellow and Turquoise buses are accepting tram tickets between the City, Bulwell and Moor Bridge. Cynthia Scisson, 58 said: “It means my journey is much longer but it’s not the end of the world. Many NET workers have been lovely, a lady working on the trams was very helpful and kindly told me, she told me where I could go alternatively.”

Cynthia, who is retired, continued: “It has been a good few days now so hopefully it’ll all be resolved soon.”

Luke Spencer, 23 lives in Radford and uses the tram from Wilkinson Street to get to work in Bulwell. He said: “It’s just about knowing where to go, there are buses accepting tram tickets for those who buy one so it isn’t too bad - I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon enough.”
