Warriors star Draymond Green elected to decline his player option earlier this month to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and ever since, speculation has run rampant regarding where he will play next season and beyond.
The expectation is that Green would re-sign with Golden State and continue to play for the only franchise he’s been with for his entire career. However, with the start of free agency approaching this weekend, rumors regarding Green and other prominent free agents have run rampant.
The latest rumor linked Green to the Trail Blazers, who continue to try to build a winner around star point guard Damian Lillard as long as he continues to express his desire to remain with the Trail Blazers. There was speculation that Green was meeting with Lillard on Wednesday to discuss the potential for them to team up in Portland. However, that rumor was shot down quickly by Portland beat writer Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian.
“According to multiple NBA sources, Draymond Green was NOT in Portland meeting with Damian Lillard regarding coming to the Blazers and all signs point to him returning to Golden State,” Fentress tweeted on Wednesday evening.
There you have it. Perhaps Green won’t be heading elsewhere after all. At the very least, it doesn’t sound like there’s any truth to the initial interest or chatter about possibly teaming up with Lillard in Portland.
