A heartbreaking incident unfolded in California as a 2-year-old boy and his 4-year-old sister lost their lives after being swept away by the swift waters of a river while playing with their mother. The family was enjoying their time at the Thurman Flats Picnic Area on Highway 38 in the San Bernardino Mountains when the tragedy occurred.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the mother and her children were near Mill Creek when the young girl was swept downstream while the mother was attending to her son. Upon realizing her daughter was missing, the mother searched for her but tragically found her son missing as well, presumed to have fallen into the rapid water.
Despite the mother's frantic efforts and seeking help from another family at the picnic area, the children could not be located. Emergency services were then summoned to aid in the search for the missing siblings.
Authorities discovered the 4-year-old girl near the river’s edge around 4:40 p.m., followed by finding the boy in a similar location just after 5 p.m. Both children were swiftly transported to local hospitals, where despite extensive life-saving measures, they were pronounced dead.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has not released further details regarding the tragic incident and has urged anyone with information to contact the Yucaipa Station.
This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by swift waters and the importance of vigilance, especially when near rivers or bodies of water. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the young victims during this difficult time.
