Rowan County Public Health in North Carolina is investigating a confirmed tuberculosis case involving a person at the Rowan-Salisbury School System and is offering free testing to students and staff identified as significantly exposed, the county said in a news release posted Sept. 28. All close contacts have already been notified by either the health department or the school district.
For most families in the district, officials say no action is needed. Anyone who was exposed will be contacted directly with testing instructions, and the county stressed that TB develops over weeks to months and is curable with medication.
