A woman has tragically died after a serious crash between a van and a car on a major Ayrshire road.
The 46-year-old female driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene after the smash with an Audi TT at 5.55am this morning.
The male driver of the Audi was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow
Pictures from the scene earlier showed the aftermath of the horrific crash.
The road has now reopened after being shut for almost 10 hours as emergency services assessed the scene.
It is the second major crash on the same stretch of road this week.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash, involving a car and a van, on the A70 westbound near Ayr around 5.55am on Friday, October 28, 2022.
“Emergency services attended, however a 46-year-old woman, the driver of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The male driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and the female passenger of the van was taken to Crosshouse Hospital.
“The road has now reopened following full collision investigation work.”
